Marta Jimenez

Martha Petrona Jiménez Pérez, is one of the most representative artists of contemporary Cuban visual arts. She has numerous personal and group exhibitions and has been a UNESCO prizer since 1997. Among her relevant recognitions are: UNEAC Award to the  ̈Plaza del Carmen Sculpture Ensemble ̈; Prize at the Second Contemporary Vase Biennial, in Shanghai, China; Prize for the best monumental sculpture at the 5th International Terracotta Symposium in Eskisehir, Turkey; First Prize at the «Amelia Peláez» Ceramics Biennial for installations and projects in Havana and received in Spain the Mayte Spínola Medal of Artistic Merit for her career in sculpture.

She works with painting, ceramics, bronze sculpture and engraving and she also has works placed in public spaces, in Cuba and Turkey. He has participated in significant events such as the Miami Art Vassel International Art Fair, the PARALLAX Art Fair in London, United Kingdom, the group exhibition at Agora Gallery, New York, the Florence biennial, Italy, dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci and received an artistic residency in Altos de Chavón, Dominican Republic. Her work throughout her life has been highlighted with the

distinction "Mirror of Patience", "Fidelio Ponce de León", the "Pedagogical Merit" and "for the National Culture". Some major highlights of her wokr include, the Sculptural Complex of the Plaza del Carmen, in Camagüey, Cuba, four monumental sculptures in the city of Eskisehir, Turkey, and the 8-meter sculpture Contra viento y marea, located in Alameda de Paula on Avenida del Port, Havana City. 

Her work belongs to institutional and private collections, in Cuba and in other countries such as England, France, the United States, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Slovakia, in spaces such as the Our America Art Collection, Casa de las Américas, Havana, Cuba ; the Center for the Arts, Derby, UK; in the Museum of the Mayor of Madison, United States; and among other sites, the Museum of Arts in the Villa de Arte y Oficio, Pezenas in France.
